What 'Gold' Grade Means

In traditional Indian and Unani manufacturing, a gold or khas grade generally indicates a richer version of a base recipe — more costly botanicals, or a higher proportion of them. That is why a gold-grade majoon is sold in a much smaller pack than the standard version: the dose is smaller because the preparation is more concentrated.

About the Majoon Form

A majoon is made by working powdered herbs into a thick base of honey or sugar syrup. This preserves the herbs without refrigeration, softens the bitterness of raw botanicals, and produces a form that is eaten by the spoonful rather than swallowed as a tablet. It is one of the oldest continuously used dosage forms in Unani medicine.

How long should I take it for? Traditional tonics are taken as a course over several weeks rather than as a one-off dose. Your practitioner will set the length based on you. Taking more than the recommended amount does not shorten a course.

How should I store it once opened? Keep it tightly closed in a cool, dry place, away from the stove and out of direct sunlight. Indian humidity is the main enemy of herbal preparations — moisture entering the pack is what spoils them.
